ScoreCues YouTube Playlist - Long Live the End Title
When the movie credits roll so does the music. The end credits give the score's composer the opportunity to let his or her musical creations for the film shine apart from the movie's visuals. Sometimes a piece is composed specifically for the end credits. At other times, the end title is assembled from cues heard during the movie. Whatever the method, the intent is for the audience to appreciate the score on its own, without the movie's visuals.
In 1977, with the score for Star Wars, John Williams helped usher in a resurgence of listening to and appreciating a film's score as a standalone musical experience. It also re-enthroned the end credits with the spectacular "Throne Room and End Title" as a place in the film for the composer's music to take center stage. Since then, composers have risen to the occasion and creatively composed some of the greatest orchestral music of modern times as a final serenade of the film's themes, colors, and emotions. The art form of the end title deserves to be highlighted, preserved, and treasured! To that end, ScoreCues presents a roughly chronological collection of end credit pieces composed for film in a regularly updated YouTube playlist. May the End Title live long, and prosper!
